The problem

Stripe pays out one lump sum, but each payout is many charges minus fees, refunds and sometimes disputes. Booking the deposit as sales understates income and hides fees. Bookkeepers fix this with a clearing account and a journal entry, which is slow to build by hand from a Stripe export.

How it works

  1. Export a Balance transactions (itemized) CSV from your Stripe Dashboard. It needs amount, fee, net, created and type or reporting_category columns; common column aliases are recognized.
  2. Open StripeClear Journal in your browser (it works from a local file) and drop the CSV, or try the built-in sample.
  3. Check the account names (five editable fields). They must match your QuickBooks chart of accounts exactly.
  4. Check the proof: the clearing residual and the per-day debit and credit totals.
  5. Download the QBO journal CSV, the payout summary and the detail audit, then import the journal in QuickBooks Online.

What you get

  • A QuickBooks Online journal CSV with Journal No., Journal Date, Account Name, Description, Debits and Credits
  • One journal per calendar day, numbered SC-YYYY-MM-DD, with debits equal to credits
  • A payout summary CSV
  • A detail audit CSV that lists every row and whether it was journaled
  • An amount-units control (auto-detect, major units or cents)

Who it's for

  • Freelancers and small teams who close their books once a month
  • Bookkeepers who reconcile Stripe payouts into QuickBooks Online

Limits: what it doesn't do

  • No live sync, no Stripe API and no login: it works only from the CSV you load
  • No multi-gateway or inventory features
  • Transfers, top-ups, adjustments and other unrecognized categories are not journaled; they are listed in the detail audit
  • Not tax advice

FAQ

Does StripeClear Journal call the Stripe API?

No. Everything runs in your browser from the CSV you load. There is no backend, no login and no analytics.

Which Stripe export should I use?

Use a Balance transactions (itemized balance) CSV that includes amount, fee, net, created, and type or reporting_category. Common aliases such as gross or created_utc are recognized.

How are disputes handled?

Disputes post like refunds with a [dispute] prefix. Dispute reversals post like charges with a [dispute reversal] prefix.

Why isn't the clearing residual exactly zero?

Common causes are date-range cutoffs (charges not yet paid out), unknown types excluded from the journal, mixed currencies or manual adjustments in Stripe. Use the detail audit and compare it with the Stripe Dashboard for the same range.

Can I rename the accounts?

Yes. Edit the five account name fields before downloading. The names must match QuickBooks exactly for a clean import.

Is this tax advice?

No. Consult your bookkeeper or tax professional.

Is it a subscription?

No. It costs $8, paid once on Gumroad. See the product page on Gumroad for its refund policy.
