How to calculate your Faire wholesale fees and real profit per order
Calculate Faire wholesale fees, payout and real profit per order for new, reorder and Faire Direct orders, with a worked example.
Published · Updated
A $200 wholesale order on Faire doesn't mean $200 in your pocket. What you keep depends on whether it's a retailer's first order, a reorder or a Faire Direct order, how fast you want to be paid, and where your business is based. Then come your own costs. This guide walks through the calculation by hand so you can set wholesale prices that still work after fees.
Fee figures below are the defaults from Faire's Help Center as checked on 2026-09-13. Rates and terms change, so always confirm against the Faire Help Center and your Brand Portal Payout Summary, which is the source of truth. This guide is not affiliated with Faire.
Step 1: Know which order type you're pricing
At the time of writing, for North American (US/Canada) brands:
- Marketplace, first order from a new retailer: 15% commission on the order subtotal plus a one-time $10 new-retailer fee
- Marketplace, reorder: 15% commission
- Faire Direct (orders through your own Faire Direct link): 0% commission, but payment processing still applies
For brands outside North America, a first Marketplace order is 25% (15% + a 10% one-time referral) and reorders are 15%. Faire Direct is again 0% commission.
Step 2: Add the payment processing fee
North America uses tiers based on how fast you're paid:
- Next day: 3.5% + $0.30
- 30-day: 2.4% + $0.30
- 60-day: 1.9% + $0.30
Outside North America, ACH Next Day is 3% of (subtotal + shipping reimbursement), and Net 30 is 0%.
For North America, processing applies to the item subtotal. Some calculators also include shipping reimbursement; choose one method and stick to it.
Step 3: Calculate the payout
Faire's North America payout formula is:
Payout = subtotal + shipping reimbursement − commission − processing fee
Worked example (NA, 30-day payout): $200 wholesale subtotal, $18 shipping reimbursement.
- First order from a new retailer: commission $30 + new-retailer fee $10 + processing (2.4% × $200 + $0.30 = $5.10) = $45.10 in fees, so payout is $200 + $18 − $45.10 = $172.90
- Reorder: fees $35.10, payout $182.90
- Faire Direct: fees $5.10, payout $212.90
Step 4: Subtract your own costs
Payout isn't profit. Take off the cost of goods and what you actually paid to ship:
Profit = payout − COGS − your shipping cost
Margin = profit ÷ subtotal
With $80 COGS and $18 actual shipping, the example above gives $74.90 profit on a first order, $84.90 on a reorder and $114.90 through Faire Direct. That's the same products, with very different results.
Step 5: Find your break-even wholesale price
Work backwards from the margin you need. For a new-retailer order, the $10 flat fee hits small orders hardest, so test your minimum order value. Roughly:
Price ≈ (COGS + own shipping − shipping reimbursement + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − commission % − processing % − target margin %)
Step 6: Check your whole catalog
Put every SKU in a sheet (wholesale price, COGS, shipping) and run the formula for new, reorder and Direct orders. Flag anything with a thin or negative margin before a retailer orders it.
Doing it faster: Faire Wholesale Fee & Profit Calculator
Faire Wholesale Fee & Profit Calculator is a single offline HTML file that does this math live. Choose North America or Outside North America, enter wholesale price, COGS, shipping reimbursement and your own shipping cost (plus an optional brand discount), then pick the order type and payout speed. It shows:
- commission, new-retailer/referral fee and processing
- total fees, effective fee % and payout
- net profit, margin and ROI
Scenario compare puts three setups side by side and highlights the best margin. Break-even finds the wholesale price for a target margin or dollar profit. Bulk CSV runs a whole SKU list from a template and flags loss rows. Fee constants are editable if Faire changes rates, and your prices and costs never leave your device.
It's an independent estimate, not a replacement for your Payout Summary, and it doesn't model ads, currency conversion or tax.
