The problem

The same item nets a different amount on Etsy, Whatnot and Faire. Each platform takes its own mix of listing, commission or transaction, and processing fees, and some fees apply to shipping as well as the item price. Comparing them by hand before you set a price is slow.

How it works

  1. Download the free file from Gumroad and open it in Excel, or import it into Google Sheets (File > Import).
  2. On the Fee Calculator tab, type your item price, shipping charged, cost of goods, and your shipping and packaging cost into the blue cells.
  3. For Faire, choose New or Reorder.
  4. Read fees, profit and margin for all three platforms side by side.
  5. If your rates differ, edit them on the Rates tab.

Default rates

The US default rates shipped in the Rates tab. You can edit every one of them.

Free Marketplace Fee Calculator: default US rates for Etsy, Whatnot and Faire
Etsy: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction fee on item plus shipping, 3% + $0.25 processing (US Etsy Payments). Whatnot: 8% commission (standard category; some categories differ), 2.9% + $0.30 processing on the order total. Faire: 25% commission for a new retailer, 15% for a reorder, processing set to 0%.

Is it really free?

Yes. It is $0+ on Gumroad: enter 0 or pay what you want.

Are the rates current?

The US default rates were verified on 2026-09-13 (Whatnot, Faire) and 2026-10-21 (Etsy). Fees change, so check each platform's fee page and edit the Rates tab.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

It is an Excel file that imports into Google Sheets (File > Import).

What does it not do?

It works one item at a time. There is no bulk CSV, no Whatnot category presets and no Faire Direct or payout-speed options. Those are in the paid Faire and Whatnot calculators.

Is this affiliated with Etsy, Whatnot or Faire?

No. It is an independent spreadsheet and gives estimates only. It is not tax or accounting advice.
