Whatnot fee calculator: how Whatnot fees are calculated

Whatnot fees broken down: commission on the sale price, processing on the order total plus a fixed fee, and how to calculate them by hand, with US and UK examples.

Published

Short answer: Whatnot takes two fees per sale. Commission is a percentage of the item's sale price only. Payment processing is a percentage of the whole order (item plus buyer-paid shipping, plus tax where applicable) plus a fixed amount per order. Published US/Canada/Australia defaults: 8% commission in most categories and 2.9% + $0.30 processing. UK/EU defaults: 6.67% commission and 2.42% + £/€0.25 processing, with VAT on fees.

Figures are Whatnot's published defaults as checked on 2026-09-13. Rates, category exceptions and promos change, so confirm in the Whatnot Help Center and your Seller Hub, which is the source of truth for payouts. Not affiliated with Whatnot.

Fee formula

  1. Commission = commission rate × item sale price.
  2. Processing = processing rate × (sale price + buyer shipping + buyer tax where applicable) + fixed fee.
  3. UK/EU only: add VAT on the fees (commonly 20%).
  4. Net payout = sale price − commission − processing (− VAT on fees).
  5. Profit = net payout − cost of goods − supplies − any shipping you pay yourself.

Worked examples (illustrative)

US: $20 sale, buyer pays $5 shipping (order value $25). Commission 8% × $20 = $1.60. Processing 2.9% × $25 + $0.30 = $1.03. Total fees $2.63, net payout $17.37.

UK: £20 sale, buyer pays £4 shipping (order value £24). Commission 6.67% × £20 = £1.33. Processing 2.42% × £24 + £0.25 = £0.83. Fees £2.16 plus 20% VAT £0.43 = £2.59, net payout about £17.41.

Note that a higher buyer shipping charge raises your processing fee but not your commission.
